I've just started this blog, and I've already fallen waaaay behind! A few weeks ago, yes, WEEKS, I finished up my 2nd Warband of Warhammer Underworlds.... Mollog's Mob! (I've actually already finished the Skaeth as well, that's how behind I am!) Just as I did with my last one, Zarbag's Gitz, I want to go into greater details about my overall thoughts while working with these models. That said, unlike last time, I will not be coving the decklist for these guys, as I haven't really modified the deck at all.
So, in the order that I finished the models in, let's get crackin!
Overall Thoughts
All in all, the Mob was a joy to paint! The models went together fairly easily, and each one presented itself with a lot of options for how to approach them in terms of paint. I didn't really dive into these models with any sort of plan, mostly I just "winged it" which I'll get into a bit more when I speak of each respective model. As with all my models, I like to work through the bases first, as I find I have a harder time controlling the paint on the base than I do controlling the line where the feet meet the base. The base was done in the same method of my Gitz, layers of grey, with an earthshade wash, followed by a sponging of tan/green. (If you'd like a tutorial on this, just let me know!)

Seeing as he's essentially just an extension of the base itself, I started with him! There really isn't too much to say about him. I followed the process for bases as outlined above, painted the tongue and mushrooms... and done! One thing I did do differently, which I was too nervous to try on my Gitz, were the "glow-shrooms" pictured on the left. I decided a heavier dose of osl would really help punch up an otherwise bland model, and so, I was brave and just went with it! I'm still not entirely comfortable with both osl and nmm, but I do want top push myself out of my comfort zone as much as I feel comfortable doing! *wink*

Bat Squig
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na BAT SQUIG! He was the 2nd model I worked on, simply because having previously worked on squigs I was a lot more comfortable with the process this time around, a lot less trial and error. Overall, again, no issues, I just built up the red over time. Though, now that I have the card in front of me, I'm seeing the color of wing-membranes are painted to match the underside. That was something I didn't do/notice, as there didn't seem to be a line indicating a separation in the skin material. So, I guess mine had a pinkish skintone underneath and basic squig-red on the top. Oh well...

A.k.a. the "lil' spud". He was the first model of the mob where I was like: "I have no clue what I'm doing", but I couldn't be happier with the results! I had no idea how to achieve the transitions in his bulbous head, but then I remembered a Youtube video I saw that mentioned wet blending, and figured I'd give it a go. I started with the base purple, painting the whole bulb, then pre-mixed both a darker shade and a lighter one. I then really quickly painted the darker tone on the bottom, and the lighter on the top, meeting in the middle. I then, while both lines were still wet, went back in with the base tone, and through pulling up and down married to two colors with the 3rd. (I really hope that makes sense!) All in all, I was pretty stoked with the outcome! The next challenge was the spore cloud. I knew I didn't want black, grey, white, as I was worried it would read more smoke than mushroom spores. So I decided to just attack it with some heavily watered down purple, in the hopes the washy look would help keep or enhance the billowing cloud effect. All in all, it wasn't too bad, I tried to keep the darker tones to the shadows and the lighter tones to the top of cloud. I can't recall ever attempting to paint a cloud effect like this before, so I can live with the results. One thing that I think would be cool to try if I ever paint another one of these would be to find/male a metallic purple paint, as I think the metal flakes in the paint would really enhance the "spore effect"..... ooooh, or I could just do glitter! Nothign could be worse than a glitter-bomb!

... and there you have it! All in all, pretty pleased with the outcome! Sure, there are things I may do differently next go around, but it's an awesome feeling when each warband gets better than your last one!
